Sporting Events 2015 -2016
Year 3 Tennis
On 11th May our Year 3 tennis team took part in skills competitions and matches for girls and boys.
We were the winners of the heats and therefore have now qualified for the county finals.
Well done to Elise, Ella, Emerson and Esme for winning 13 out of the 16 matches they played. The boys did well too. They won 9 out of their 16 matches.
Outdoor Adventurous Activities
Wednesday 27th April our KS1 pupils visited Medowfeild sports centre to take part in a rage of team activities including and outdoor treasure hunt where they had to solve clues and complete related tasks. Even though the weather was not dry enough for all of the activities to be held outside the event was enjoyed by all children.
Thursday 28th April our year 4, 5 and 6 pupils received their certificates for their gymnastics abilities.

KS2 Cross Country, Wednesday 7th October 2015
Quicksticks Hockey Festival, Tuesday 2nd October 2015
Class 3 have been taking part in hockey coaching every Friday this half term. To put their skills into practice, we took two teams, one from year 4 and one from year 5 to Maiden Castle to take part in the Quicksticks Hockey festival. The children played extremely well, losing only 2 of their 8 games. As you can see from the photos, we all had an enjoyable afternoon.
It was incredibly wet and muddy but we survived the School Sports Partnership Cross Country event on Wednesday 7th October! Well done to all of KS2 for your fantastic efforts during the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 races. I was so proud of your behaviour, sense of fun and your resilience. Thank you for supporting and encouraging each other and thank you to all the parents who braved the weather to support our school.
Huge congratulations to Erin for achieving 1st place in the Year 5/6 Girls’ Race and Joshua who was 8th in the Year 5/6 Boys’ Race. Both children have now qualified for the County Finals in March. Well done!
The boys started with a game against Sherburn Village school. The final score was 0 – 1. Next they played Cassop, and the game ended in a goal-less draw. The winning team in the third game was Murton St. Joseph’s with a resounding 5 – 0 victory!
All the boys played enthusiastically and they are hoping for some wins in the near future.
Sporting Events 2014 -2015
The Durham Dash
The runners from Esh C of E had a fun night racing at the Durham Dash. All children ran well, so congratulations children. A special mention to Erin Keeler-Clarke who was the second fastest Y5 girl in the County.
Year 1 and 2 children took part in a gymnastics festival at the Louisa Centre were fun was had by all.
Year 1 and 2 children took part in a basketball festival at Maiden Castle learning lots of new and fun skills.
On Tuesday 21st April 8 pupils from class 3 and 4 attended the Go Ride festival at Meadowfield Sport Centre. There were 11 girls’ teams and 11 boys’ teams from different schools. They competed in relay heats to begin with. Then the final race were the winners of those heats. Our school not only won 1st place in the girls’ event but also won 1st place in the boys’ event. Well done to Liah, Erin, Katie and Sian and also to Charlie, Harvey, Max and Cody
Skipping School Festival Success!
Last Wednesday, 18th March, Class 3 went to Framwellgate School to take part in the Skipping Festival. It was great fun. First we did our individual skills. Some of them were Face to Face Pairs, Keep the Pot Boiling, Side Swing and Pretzels. Then we did the Big Rope. Next we did our Skip Dance and we came first in that event. We also won gold, silver and bronze in some of the individual skipping and soon we found out that we had come first overall in the competition after competing against 6 other schools with a score of 698 points.
This is the second year in a row that Class 3 at Esh C of E Primary has been the outright winners. Will the next Class 3 be able to make it a hat-trick?

Our Fabulous Five Cross Country Runners
On Friday 13th March there were lots of red noses at Parkside Academy, Willington.
It was the Cross Country Championships and our finalists Charlie Phillips, Erin-Keeler Clarke, Joshua Robinson, Abi McCourt and Ruby Phillips raced round every muddy track. Charlie came 14th in his run, Erin came 4th, Joshua came 6th and Abi and ruby came 24th and 28th respectively out of over 100 year 4 girls. Esh CE Netball Team
The netball team played the last part of their netball league this week at DCBC. They won their first match against Brandon 6-0 and then played a further friendly against the same team winning 2-1. They finished the tournament in third place only one point behind the team in second.
All the team tried extremely hard including the substitute who played in the last week and improved week by week. Well done to all who took part.
Esh CE Netball v Durham High School Netball
On Tuesday 18th November, fourteen Year 5 and 6 pupils, both girls and boys, visited Durham High School for Girls to play three friendly netball matches. We were extremely successful, winning two games (scores 8-5 and 5-3) and drawing another one (score 4-4). All the children played very well as most have only being playing netball for a short time. Well done to everyone and a big thank you to the High School for their hospitality.
Quicksticks Hockey Festival
On Tuesday 22nd October, 8 pupils from Year 5 & 6 took part in the KS2 Quicksticks Hockey Festival at Maiden Castle.
Team 1 consisted of Alex, Rob, Ben and Tom who in their first match got beaten 1-0 by St Godric’s team 3. In their second match they won 1-0 against Ouston team 3. In their third match they won 2-1 against St Joseph’s team 4 and their final match against St Joseph’s team 8 was cancelled due to timing issues was classed as a draw. Team 2 consisted of Charlie, Oliver, Luke B and Cody who won all four games. The score was 2-0 in all of their games, against St Joseph’s team 1, St Godric’s team 4, Nettlesworth and St Joseph’s team 5. Fun was had by all pupils despite the cold weather.
On Wednesday 1st October 2014 years 1 and 2 boys and girls went to the Soccertots Festival. We went on a mini bus that we shared with Bearpark School children.We played mini games of football and then we practiced good headers and dribbled balls round the cones. We played a game of kick skittles and overhead throw skittles. Lastly we did some hurdle races. We had an excellent time and learned some new skills.
